Errata

Official Errata for Practical Aviation Security

It’s amazing, over a dozen people, including the authors themselves, several times, read over the final draft of the text, yet we still find the occasional mistake. If you see something that you think is an error, post a comment and we will investigate it.

Chapter 2, Page 70, Bottom of the Third FULL paragraph that states: “. . . would be addressed a year later with the crash of TWA 847.”
Should be: “… would be addressed a year later with the crash of TWA 800.”

Chapter 2, Page 69,
While this really isn’t an error, I did want to clarify that Yousef’s attempt at bombing a flight took place on December 11, 1994, while the subsequent attacks were apparently planned for 1995.

  1. last page of the preface, second to last paragraph lists the ElAl shooting in LAX as a non-terrorist event.

Since the initial classification, the FBI and I believe the NCTC have reclassified this event as an act of international terrorism.

great book. i’m working my way through it and will have some cargo security corrections for you also if interested.

  2. Thank you Greg. I was unaware of that. I wonder what the Ft. Hood shooting will be classified as. Yes, would love the cargo corrections. When we went to print a lot of the cargo changes and regs were not yet implemented.

  3. The LAX July 4 2002 shooting was officially classed as a terrorist act in April 2003 after a lot of pressure to do so and after 9 months of internal review. Interestingly, though, the investigation immediately following first response was conducted in accordance with protocols that placed FBI in charge if terrorist incidents. Although it had not been so declared, it seemed to all involved that it would be.
