Chapter 5: Commercial Aviation Airport Security
PAGE 162, paragraph that begins with the sentence “The air operations area (AOA)…”
UPDATE: Within the AOA the TSA now requires that individuals pass a Security Threat Assessment (STA) and receive approved airport identification. Individuals within the AOA do not have to display this ID, but must possess it anytime they are in the AOA and present it upon demand. If the AOA is also a SIDA, then SIDA rules supersede the AOA rules.
Chapter 7: Passenger and Baggage Screening
PAGE 225, paragraph that beings with the sentence “Presently, in the United States…”
UPDATE: The TSA announced in May of 2009 that the Explosive Trace Portals, also known as “puffers,” would cease to be deployed in airport screening checkpoints. It is up to each airport whether to continue using the previously deployed ETD machines. The ETD’s suffered high breakdown rates and are being replaced with body imaging technology. This is not to say the program could not come back if better technologies are developed, or threats are identified that could be stopped with the use of this technology, that cannot be stopped with other existing technology.
